The style of play is now
becoming so engraving and pretty consistent for New Zealand– They have played four ODI Series in
the lead-up to the World Cup – They have one three and lost one. The win
includes the UAE series win and the home series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The resurgence of this
team has been articulated by the ever reliable captain Brendon McCullum. The team under him is priding on the
confidence and the momentum he has instilled in them over the last year giving
them a hope for the World Cup title.
Their World Cup performances
have thus far also been good – They have made it to the Semi-Finals 6 out of 10
times, but never further.
Now, when we look at the
team, it gives a very good feeling of a balanced team. Every team at this level
needs to have atleast 3 performing batsmen in form before the start of a big
tournament. New Zealand has in them more with Guptill, McCullum, Williamson and
Taylor in fine form and added to that resurgence of Ronchi and Anderson gives
them a deadly combination.
The bowling also looks a terrific combination with
Mills, Southee and Boult followed by Vettori or N McCullum.
This team has got the
best opportunity to pull it through and I feel that they will be a
strong contender to qualify for the finals.
